Meet Poppy Barley's First-Ever Intern

3-minute read

Poppy Barley Photo ShootIt's been a crazy month at the PB office, from debuting our S/S '13 Flats Collection, redesigning our online shop, throwing a launch party, and planning a photo shoot, to introducing our new manufacturing promise, participating in our first crowdfunding campaign, and getting married (we'll tell you about our co-founder Justine's made to measure wedding dress later!). We wouldn't have been able to do it all without our first-ever intern, Brittany, helping us pull through. An ex-hair stylist and current communications student at Grant MacEwan University in Edmonton, Brittany reached out to our co-founder, Kendall, at the end of May to pick her brain. We were so taken with Brittany's disarming personality and bright initiative, we were delighted to offer her a month-long internship with us. As Friday marked her last day with us, we're sharing with you a little profile on Brittany's background and her experience at the Poppy Barley office. NAME: Brittany JOB TITLE: (First ever) Poppy Barley Intern How did you get into the beauty industry? I completed the cosmetology program at Eveline Charles Academy after high school and have been working in the salon for the last six years. I have always been interested in the beauty industry, as my mum is a hairstylist, so it's always been something I loved. Why did you decide to go back to school? Originally I wanted to become more involved in the marketing and brand development of a beauty product line. Now that I am in my program, I want to explore and branch outside of the salon world. What made you want to intern at Poppy Barley? I wanted to be a part of an innovative team that could offer the experience of the communications field while combining my interest in fashion. In one sentence, describe your typical day at the Poppy Barley office: Styling outfits with Poppy Barley flats and dreaming writing about where the shoes would take me. What’s been your favourite part of the internship? The S/S '13 Flats Inspiration Notebooks! Favourite internship memory? The S/S 2013 Collection photo shoot (that's me, pictured above, playing with sidewalk chalk!). What’s your dream job? Copywriting and advertising for an amazing fashion line. Fit Issue: I'm in-between sizes, 8.5 and 9. Favourite Poppy Barley Flats style right now: The Modern Mary-Jane with a Black Python heel and Metallic Gold toe Favourite online hangout spot: YouTube - If you're interested in buying something, chances are someone has done a review on it! Favourite quote: “Pour yourself a drink, put on some lipstick, and pull yourself together.”― Elizabeth Taylor Favourite city to visit: Paris Lusting after: The new arrivals online at Kate Spade, I love everything. I have a weakness for: Sweets and a good sale. Fun fact: I changed oil at a Lube Ex for a couple months one summer because I wanted to learn how. When it's time to unwind, I… Paint my nails, it’s the one time you’re forced to just sit. Favourite App: Urban Spoon

Belt Measuring Guide

Belt Measuring Guide

A - High-rise style:

If you plan to wear your belt around your natural waistline, wrap a measuring tape around the narrowest part of your midsection. Then, add 3” to determine your high-rise belt size.

B - Mid-rise style:

If you plan to wear your belt lower than your natural waistline, you will require a dierent size. If you have a particular pair of bottoms you intend to wear your belt with, wrap a measuring tape through the belt loops while in a relaxed position.

When wearing your belt in your preferred style, it should fasten in the middle hole. The belt will relax with wear allowing you to cinch it tighter, as needed.

If you plan to wear the belt in both the high and mid-rise styles, you have two options:

  1. Select your high-rise style and fasten it more loosely when worn in the mid-rise style.
  2. Select your mid-rise style and fasten it more tightly when worn in the high-rise style.
