A Force in Canadian Fashion
No one is doing this. We are basically running a one (wo)man race.
After a light bulb moment at a handcrafted boot shop in Bali, sisters Justine and Kendall Barber launched Poppy Barley in 2012. They travelled to León, Mexico in search of a leather shoe factory that prioritized its people and could offer flexibility in sizing and inventory through small-batch manufacturing. Although they were newcomers to shoemaking, Justine and Kendall were raised to be creative, ambitious, industrious and ask a lot of questions. Collaborating with factory owners and artisans, Poppy Barley started producing beautiful footwear and accessories designed for modern life.
Poppy Barley is the only company in North America to offer handcrafted calf-fitted boots online.
The Luxury Gap
Artisanal talent meets modern access.
Equally turned off by cheaply made, uncomfortable, disposable shoes, and logo laden, preposterously priced brand name footwear, we saw a gap in the market.
We call it the luxury gap.
Skipping traditional wholesale markups, we saw an opportunity to manufacture exceptional products at exceptional price points to people with big expectations of themselves and the products they buy. A size inclusive brand, we offer Women’s footwear in sizes 5 to 12 and Men’s in sizes 5 to 15. We also provide an exclusive made-to-order service that delivers luxurious, calf-fitted tall boots, as well as extended width footwear from narrow to wide.
