The Read | Lifestyle Quarantine-ing with Kids April 01, 2020 3-minute read Making the most of your quarantined days can be especially challenging when you have little ones to keep occupied. You’ve blown through your free trial of Disney Plus—so what’s next? Businesses and organizations are banding together to provide innovating and engaging online solutions to keep our children’s brains and bodies moving. We’ve gathered eight ways to help spark creativity and movement in your homes so you and your kids can stay busy (and sane!) 1. Get Moving! Wymbin Yoga is offering online yoga classes for children and their families. Follow Wymbin on Instagram for class times and other activities throughout the month. 2. Take a museum tour. Museums across the world are offering virtual tours and programming for children. In Alberta specifically, you can hop on the Glenbow Museum tour with Glenbow From Home or explore some of the world's most famous museums with your family here. 3. Visit the zoo. Leave the zoo-keeping to the professionals and keep your kids busy with live videos from zoos across Canada. Watch the penguins and sea otters at the Vancouver Aquarium, learn about The Calgary Zoo’s animals with their Daily Dose feature or keep up with some of The Toronto Zoo’s most cuddly creatures through their live cams. 4. Colour away! Our good friend and talented creative, Justine Ma, is helping families celebrate Easter with free pdf downloads on her website. She's also encouraging kids to hang their decorated eggs in the windows of their homes to promote a social-distancing egg hunt while on neighbourhood walks! 5. Dive into family fun. Christin Dewald of Little w Studio is hosting Zoom art classes for children. They’re interactive and a whole lot of fun for the entire family. 6. Put on your chef's hat. Learn how to decorate cookies that look as good as they taste. Corianne from Corianne’s Custom Cookies walks you through how to decorate the perfect cookies for any occasion. 7. Create Pinterest-worthy crafts. Our friends at Pinnovate are offering Calgarians the chance to make Pinterest-worthy crafts at home by delivering craft kits and offering tutorials via their YouTube channel! Not in Calgary for delivery? Michaels is offering curbside pick-ups at their locations across Canada for all of your crafting necessities. 8. Exercise their brains. Scholastic’s free learn-from-home site has over 20 days of learning and activities. They’ve customized programming based on your child's grade level ranging from Pre-K to Grade 9. Read all about it here. So whether they’re heading out for a virtual day at the zoo or crafting their next masterpiece, we hope your kids stay busy and engaged—so you can enjoy some well-deserved YOU time! A special thanks to all of the businesses and organizations generously providing free resources for families during this pandemic.
