The Read | Behind the Business Poppy Barley Weekly 46 April 10, 2015 4-minute read It's feeling like summer! Although I'm preparing for a week-long staycation (is it weird to ask your co-workers out for post-work beers to celebrate that you're on holiday?), there's so much happening at Poppy Barley this week that it feels like a bit of a stolen getaway. Plus, we missed an update last week because of the Easter weekend. So, here's what's up: It's Day 2 of our #SIMONSxPOPPYBARLEY partnership tomorrow (our biggest partnership yet). We'll be in the CONTEMPORAINE department at Simons, West Edmonton Mall from 10am to 6pm taking measuring appointments. Our full collection offering is on display, including Snakeskin and Men's. Drop in, or book your appointment here. Speaking of Snakeskin, we sold out of the Snakeskin Slip-on Oxford and The Chelsea Boot in Snakeskin and Black this week. BUT, because we've had a ton of e-mails about them since, we've re-allocated our leather and added a few more to the shop. Don't miss it this time. We're hosting Ontario jewellery label bluboho at our showroom (#200, 10822 - 82 Ave.) next Wednesday, April 15, from 6 to 9pm! They have the most beautiful, delicate pieces that we can't wait to get our hands on. Find out more about them in this Q&A with Audrey, who was the key to building our partnership with the brand. Speaking of brand, come out to our PB Hangout with brand at the end of the month, a one day workshop for entrepreneurs and small business owners to create a business plan, define your brand, master social media tools and practice photo styling. Poppy Barley is hiring! We're looking for a Showroom Associate to work at our Edmonton showroom and popup shops across Canada. Details and deadline (Monday) here. Our friends at Glow Juicery open a new location (7911 - 104 St.) tomorrow featuring juices and raw food. Congrats Edmonton-based Showbie! With $2.3M in the bank, Showbie wants to make classrooms paperless. We're previewing our Summer Limited Edition Collection over at Ania B. for the full month of April. Get first access to the collection by becoming a PB Insider. We've also got a really cool contest going on for our subscribers, so now would be the time to get PB in your inbox! Poppy Barley in the news: Justine was interviewed by Ryan Jespersen on 630CHED in a series called "Really Cool Jobs". Listen here (she talks about having NFL cheerleaders as clients, how Kendall used to "smack her around" when they were little, and how she views Poppy Barley as an opportunity to use business for good). Photos from our SIMONSxPOPPYBARLEY launch party last week are on the Edmonton Journal's Social Seen page. The Flannel Foxes (two awesome girls in Edmonton reinventing menswear looks for women) snapped a few photos, too! Poppy Barley was included on Jennifer Chiu's YouTube channel! She is a fantastic beauty and style vlogger from Vancouver who has more than 100,000 subscribers and some videos with millions of views. See her in her Poppy Barley Cognac Foxhunt Boots by watching the above clip. Alexandra from Vancouver styled her Poppy Barley boots with camo here (it totally works!). And Instagram is our favourite place because people like @chiutips, @ellivenstudio, @stayathomefeminist and @joypecknold shared some beautiful images of their Poppy Barleys this week. Keep 'em coming! What we're reading: You'll meet Renato soon, but our new Content Manager is doing a super interesting Shoeology series on the history of shoes. His first post about the history of the oxford will surprise you. What is today considered the most formal of men’s shoes is likely the product of rebellious college kids hundreds of years ago. From Inc. Magazine: The Mistake that Turned Warby Parker into an Overnight Legend Does staring endlessly at Sebastian Lester's typography videos on Instagram count as reading? In celebration of Siblings Day, take a read of Kendall's post about sibling-co-founder relationships and working with Justine.
