The Read | Lifestyle Poppy Barley Summer Playlist April 14, 2015 2-minute read With the snow finally gone and summer just around the not-too-distant corner (we really don't get much of a spring here in Edmonton, do we?), daydreams of lazy afternoons lounging in hammocks and family barbeques have started to infiltrate my brain. And I can't think of a better way to prepare for summer than a collection of tunes that will have you dying to rock some shorts even though the thermometer has barely cracked 10 degrees Celsius. I've put the following Spotify playlist together for your listening pleasure—consider it a shot of vitamin D without the hazard those pesky UV rays pose. We've still got a few months until summer truly arrives, but Fred Thomas's "July" is a little taste of the humidity the month its named after offers. From then on things stay loose and carefree, with a dash of irreverence for good measure. I also thought we'd highlight a few Edmonton artists (or artists with close ties to our city, even if they no longer live here) who have put out great music over the last few months, so pay close attention to the songs by Michael Rault, Faith Healer (the duo of Jessica Jalbert and Renny Wilson), Mac DeMarco, and Travis Bretzer. Other parts of Canada are represented as well by the talented likes of Will Butler (of Arcade Fire fame) and Caribou. So grab a glass, some ice, fill it with something tasty, and give our summer playlist a spin.
