For years, I’ve been committed to buying Canadian when possible. Supporting a homegrown brand gives that entrepreneur the courage to keep dreaming, and every purchase is a hug you give the company. I know because these are the superpowers and love I feel every time someone buys Poppy Barley. Here are some of our favourites:
For Kids
For my kids, I love Clek, the only car seat made in Canada. My kids love twinning in the super soft pajamas from Bambi and Birdie. For clothing basics, my go-to's are Miles the Label and Mini Mioche. Staying warm with baselayers and mittens is easy thanks to Kombi (for adults too!). Monte makes the best gliders and I love the Dorma bed they made for my son. For capturing childhood by printing photos or photobooks, my go-to is Ontario-based Pikto.

For the Home
The best candles are BLK ROSE (Toni scent is my fav) and Marin Candle in Kelowna. My living room sofa was made in Montréal by Romano topped with pillows from Tonic Living. Many of the displays in Poppy Barley stores were made by Forge 53 who boasts an impressive residential offering of mirrors, doors and railings. Division Twelve makes outstanding bar stools. From PEI, MacAusland’s Woollen Mills makes warm, soft, durable wool blankets.

For Your Wardrobe
First, Montreal-based Walters protects all my shoes and bags.I have a few forever blazers in my closet from Smythe. For t-shirts, I like KOTN. For classic work wear Sophie Grace. My fav pajamas come from This is J. I’m saving for a Sentaler alpaca coat. My fav sweatshirts are from Reigning Champ. I workout in lululemon. For jewelry, there are many outstanding Canadian mid-market brands: Kara Yoo, Mejuri, Celi, bluboho, So Pretty Cara Cotter, Jenny Bird, Leah Alexandra, Dean Davidson, and Melanie Auld. For custom, fine jewelry, I work with Carmen at Concept Jewelry Design.

For Your Kitchen
You’ll always find a jar of Calgary-based Drizzle Honey in my pantry. For non-alcoholic drinks, I love Sapsucker and Geez Louise. My dog, Cedar, eats Now Fresh kibble from Fraser Valley, BC. Anita’s Organic Mill has the best flours and oats. Great produce, grains, wine and beer are all easily found by Canadian producers. Check the labels and let’s do our best.
