Re-certify as a Benefit Corporation.
Certified B Corporations are a new kind of business that balances purpose and profit. They are legally required to consider the impact of their decisions on their workers, customers, suppliers, community, and the environment.
Recertification submitted in January 2022 with over 90 points. (The minimum to certify is 80.) We are currenly in the Verification Queue with Benefit Corporation Inc., waiting for an Analyst to verify our application.
Fund scholarships for children and grandchildren of artisans in MX and create a new way to support local women pursuing careers in fashion, business and sustainability.
We awarded three scholarships for the children of artisans in Mexico to attend university. We also took on an intern (for academic credit) studying fashion.
Provide consumers with supply chain visibility of our factories and materials suppliers for Poppy Barley’s top 10 best-selling products.
We have all the requisite information but did not create anything front-facing to increase our transparency with customers.
Add a Poppy Barley resale market and continue our partnership with Soles4Souls to facilitate second lives for pre-loved, worn footwear.
We continued our partnership with Soles for Souls and launched our 'ReBoot' program to take back loved, worn Poppy Barley shoes. We evaluated a couple re-sale market options but did not find a software platform currently availabe in Canada.
Commission a study to determine PB’s carbon footprint and set annual reduction targets. Offset all direct (Scope 1 and 2) greenhouse gas emissions.
Our study determined Poppy Barley's total carbon footprint (Scope 1, 2 and 3) and did a Life-cycle Analysis of our 5 best-sellling products. We created annual reduction targets and offset our Scope 1 and 2 emissions by supporting the xxx project.
Use the most sustainable materials (those with A and B ratings) for 35% of our total materials.
Our products for the year used A and B materials in 35% of our total materials. We also switched to water-based glues for 75% of our products.
This is (and we) are not perfect. However, with incremental steps, relentless focus, and accountability, we are changing the fashion industry.
