Poppy Barley Weekly 48

5-minute read

PB-Weekly-48-Main With everything else that happened on Friday (ICYMI, we launched our Summer Collection!), we missed posting our weekly re-cap, so here's a little catch-up for your Sunday reading pleasure...
  • Friday (April 24) was Fashion Revolution Day. Two years ago in Dhaka, Bangladesh, a factory complex collapsed killing over 1100 workers and injuring another 2500. Since then the #FashRev movement has sparked Instagram users all over the world to ask, “Who made my clothes?” Over the last few days, people have been posting photos wearing their clothes inside out to show their labels, tagging brands like Burberry, Stella McCartney and American Apparel. Fashion Revolution is urging people to look for accountability in their manufacturers, to seek transparency, and think about the livelihood of the people who make the products they purchase. We love it! We are on board! We believe in Total Manufacturing Transparency and we share our factory’s story proudly on our website.
  • As mentioned above, some of you have seen it, some of you are about to see it. This weekend we launched our Summer Collection (cue the fan-girl screams)! We have brought in four brand new leathers--White Cheetah, Metallic Lizard, Azul Nubuck and Beach Tan--to jazz up the Modern Mary-Jane and the Slip-on Oxford. The fifth leather is a PB favourite: Blue Jean Baby! But the most exciting news here might be our new Strappy Sandal. Our co-founder, Justine, has designed a shoe that is perfect for any adventures you may have in the coming months. We like to think of this collection as a walking summertime getaway. Please let us know what you think in the comments.
  • We are hosting a SPRING SALE! Order multiple pairs of ANY POPPY BARLEY STYLE (including Men's) and save. Bundles are as follows and end on May 2nd at midnight:
    • 2 pairs, save $50
    • 3 paris, save $75
    • 4 pairs, save $100
Local-Wanderer-Poppy-Barley-Chelsea-Boots PB In the Press:
  • Have you checked out In Honor of Design yet? If not, here’s your chance. This week she features our Classic Ankle Bootie in a post that shows us just how stylish maternity style can be. Find out more about Anna (she's also the founder of The Brand Market) in this Q&A we shared last week.
  • With the coming changes in the Federal budgets, The Globe and Mail asked our co-founder Kendall about how this will impact small-businesses. (Warning: We are about to get political - just a little.)
  • The duo behind Local Wanderer took "A Trip To Joshua Tree" and took their Cognac Chelsea Boots with them (sneak peek above). These Poppy Barleys are getting a lot of love and travel time. Since we all have a little wanderlust in us, what more can we ask? They’re making the desert heat of California look chic to boot (pun intended).
  • Simons Fashion Ambassador Janis Galloway of Dress Me Dearly talks about our pop-up at their Edmonton location on Nait News Watch. Saturday (yesterday) was our last popup of a month-long collaboration with Simons and it was one of our biggest to date! Thank you to everyone who came out to support us. We can't wait to do it again!
Poppy Barley Birthday Team News:
  • Happy Birthday to our co-founder, Kendall! We all celebrated with her this week by eating cupcakes from her in-laws. One cupcake even had a chocolate boot topping! Nice work, Flirt.
  • Our new Men's Collection content manager, Renato, who has been keeping us all informed with his Shoeology series, was published in Rolling Stone! The. Rolling. Stone. Though we love our footwear, we are also music lovers in this office. Renato reviews Yelawolf’s new album here.
  • Meanwhile, Caroline, our Community Manager, was in Calgary this weekend for the PARK Emerging Artist and Designer Forum. She hosted a session about Building a Social Brand, discussing Poppy Barley's blogger collaborations, marketing initiatives, and why defining your brand muse is so important.
  • Speaking of brand, we hosted Nicole from brand for an all-day, sold-our workshop on branding at our Edmonton showroom on Saturday. Nicole was amazing, and we can't wait to introduce more events like this in our new space. Stay tuned to this page to track 'em.
  • And finally - meet Yvonne, our Customer Care Lead, by inspecting the contents of her desk.
It's Monday tomorrow. On the bright side, we'll see you again in less than 24 hours!

Belt Measuring Guide

Belt Measuring Guide

A - High-rise style:

If you plan to wear your belt around your natural waistline, wrap a measuring tape around the narrowest part of your midsection. Then, add 3” to determine your high-rise belt size.

B - Mid-rise style:

If you plan to wear your belt lower than your natural waistline, you will require a dierent size. If you have a particular pair of bottoms you intend to wear your belt with, wrap a measuring tape through the belt loops while in a relaxed position.

When wearing your belt in your preferred style, it should fasten in the middle hole. The belt will relax with wear allowing you to cinch it tighter, as needed.

If you plan to wear the belt in both the high and mid-rise styles, you have two options:

  1. Select your high-rise style and fasten it more loosely when worn in the mid-rise style.
  2. Select your mid-rise style and fasten it more tightly when worn in the high-rise style.
