The Read | Profiles In Her Shoes: Kari Skelton December 15, 2014 3-minute read Who's walking around in Poppy Barley shoes? Here, we chat to our customers to find out who they are and what they do. Name: Kari Skelton Occupation: Radio Host, Up! 99.3 Home: Edmonton, Alberta I Own: The Classic Ankle Bootie What does your typical work day look like? I arrive at Up! 99.3 around 4:15 a.m. on a typical day. After my first Coconut-Almond milk latte's down, I finalize prep for our show, write my news package, and then The Wake Up! Show with Jason and Kari is on-air from 5:30-9 a.m. After the show, I voice commercials, have a post-show meeting with my boss and prep for future shows. From there, I'm basically plugged in until I go to bed that evening (social media is great show prep!). What does your perfect weekend look like? My perfect weekend in Edmonton would involve a massage at Alberta Momentum on 99th Street, brunch with friends at Canteen, a beautiful bottle of Falernia Carmenere at our backyard fire pit, a walk down 124th Street with my husband Ryan and our Boxer Moses, and a marathon of something on Netflix. Ahhhhh! How many years have you been working in radio? What do you like most about working in radio? I started as a news reporter/anchor in Red Deer twelve years ago. I've co-hosted The Wake Up! Show with Jason and Kari for the last three years. What I love most about working in radio is being able to showcase other people's stories. Our listeners amaze us every day with the experiences they share. I love the immediacy of being live. Ultimately, I work to ensure our audience genuinely enjoys being a part of what we do every morning! If you could host a dinner party with anyone--dead or alive--who would be on the guest list? What would you cook for them? It would be a Girl Power dinner! I'd include all of my girlfriends, some of my favourites from the Entertainment industry - Ellen Degeneres, Kelly Ripa, Pink, and Beyonce. My Nanny, who passed away in 1999, would be there. I was very close with her. I'd want Princess Di at that table, too. I would make my Wild Mushroom and Asparagus Risotto (but have Oodle Noodle on standby just in case!). There would be plenty of wine, and cupcakes and truffle popcorn for dessert. In one sentence, describe your experience wearing Poppy Barley shoes. My Classic Ankle Booties are my GSD boots. My 'Get ... (let's say) "Stuff" Done' boots. Fashionable and comfortable so my feet look good while I'm running around Getting Stuff Done! I struggle to find stylish, comfortable shoes because of my high arch. These boots mold to my feet and support that arch! It's a dream. What's one New Year's Resolution you're sticking to in 2015? I have the same one every year: to be a kinder person.
